Since opening in 2000 Shirley's philosophy has been about using top quality, locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. This combined with making things in small batches to achieve the best quality possible has proven very successful. For many years Shirley's kitchen supplied Air New Zealand with Spiced figs for their first class and business class menus. Products from Shirley's kitchen can be found in many fine restaurants and delicatessen around the country. A high demand also came from Asia where Shirley's kitchen Spiced figs and Plums have been seen on cheese boards in Singapore and Hong Kong.
Shirley was and still is heavily involved in the New Zealand food industry with involvements in the NZ chefs association and The Food Writers Guild. She is a well known food writer with 14 published cookbooks.
In 2017 Artisan Vinegar and Shirley's kitchen combined and now present an even larger range of outstanding quality products.
